  1.              USING DOCUMENT CONVERSION MANAGER
  2.              =================================
  3.  
  4. Document Conversion Manager works on the basis that there is a
  5. preferred work-station WP, and that the work-station may be
  6. receiving documents created by other applications, which need to
  7. be converted dynamically as they are needed for editing or
  8. viewing. 
  9.  
  10. If the work-station WP is a Windows application that supports DDE,
  11. and will act as a server to Document Conversion Manager, then the
  12. application may be activated, and the converted document loaded,
  13. ready for viewing, printing and editing.
  14.  
  15. Launching documents is controlled through the Document Conversion
  16. Manager file selection screen. To access this screen, click on the
  17. Document Conversion Manager icon. The resulting screen provides
  18. directory browse and file selection, and displays the current
  19. path, the output path for converted documents, the work-station
  20. WP, and a check box indicating launch or non-launch of converted
  21. documents. 
  22.  
  23. Document Conversion Manager is seamlessly integrated with Windows,
  24. and does not need to be run from its icon, for conversion to be
  25. effected.  
  26.  
  27. Use File Manager         Using File-Manager to select an
  28.                          "Associated" document will automatically
  29.                          convert and load the document. 
  30.     
  31. E-Mail attachments.      Documents attached to E-Mail notes can be 
  32. Works with MS-Mail       converted in the same way, provided the
  33.   and CC:Mail.           file extension is "Associated" with
  34.                          Document Conversion Manager. Click on the
  35.                          attachment to automatically convert and
  36.                          launch the converted document. 
  37.     
  38. Use DCM.                 Click on the Document Conversion Manager
  39.                          icon, and use the standard file selection
  40.                          procedure to locate, convert and launch
  41.                          documents.
  42.     
  43.           Document Conversion Manager running from its icon 
  44.           is not dependent on any file/application associations
  45.           being setup. Document Conversion Manager will
  46.           automatically determine the document type, convert it
  47.           to the work-station WP, and if required, activate the
  48.           application and launch the document. 
  49.     
  50. Change WRITER.           If you have installed multiple WRITERS,
  51.                          and need to change the work-station WP: 
  52.                       -  Press SETUP 
  53.                       -  Select a new WRITER 
  54.                       -  Press CLOSE 
  55.  
  56.           Remember, changing the WRITER may require a 
  57.           change to the Font Map or the READER Controls.

  61.            ======================================

  63.                 UNIPLEX  READER  SETUP
  64.                 ======================
  65.  
  66. Your Uniplex documents should contain basic layout information
  67. describing :    
  68.            -  the page size and orientation.    
  69.            -  page margins.    
  70.            -  base font, pitch, and/or height.  
  71.  
  72. Pages should be terminated with an end page dot command. 
  73. All available Uniplex fonts should be correctly entered into
  74. UPXFONT.INI, and mapped to the required Target Typeface.
  75. Information on how to do this is provided later in this section. 
  76.  
  77. If your Uniplex documents contain vector graphics line-draw, you
  78. must have a scaleable, fixed pitch line-draw font available in
  79. your target word-processor.
  80.  
  81. Document Conversion Manager will create styles for : 
  82.   -  Each different ruler contained within a document. 
  83.   -  Text that is not adjusted to the current ruler. 
  84.   -  Text that contains regular line-draw. 
  85. The application of Styles is controlled through the WRITER
  86. Controls setup.  
  87.  
  88. Uniplex Defaults     If the page description and default font
  89.                      information is not present in the source
  90.                      document, the page size, print margins and
  91.                      font information can be pre-defined.  
  92.                      Document Conversion Manager defaults to the 
  93.                      following parameters :  
  94.     Font name        Font =  FX-Normal 
  95.     Font size        Size = 12pt 10 pitch This value is used where 
  96.                      a font size is not defined within your
  97.                      documents, or a font size is not defined
  98.                      within UPXFONT.INI 
  99.     Paper size       Paper =  A4, portrait orientation 
  100.     Print margins    Margins =  Printer crop areas. These values
  101.                      are set at the default printer crop areas at
  102.                      install time.
  103.                      These values do not change if a new printer
  104.                      is selected. These values can be changed to
  105.                      conform to the Uniplex system print defaults. 
  106.     Default ruler    Document Conversion Manager will use a
  107.                      default ruler that contains sufficient
  108.                      increments to span the printable width at the
  109.                      default font. 
  110. Printer instructions If your Uniplex documents contain printer
  111.                      control strings to enable font changes, these
  112.                      control strings must be setup in UPXFONT.INI.
  113.                      If they are not mapped, they will be ignored,
  114.                      which may lead to incorrect formatting and
  115.                      pagination. 
  116.  
  117.         N.B.         We recommend that Uniplex document print
  118.                      margins be set at, or close to, the printer
  119.                      crop margins when converting documents
  120.                      containing graphic line-draw.
  121.

  124. Line-draw            Uniplex line-draw graphics may be :
  125.                  -   Stripped and replaced by spaces.
  126.                  -   Converted as either underscore and bar 
  127.                      characters in a scalable Courier font. 
  128.                      If you do not have scaleable fonts, converted 
  129.                      text may format incorrectly.    
  130.                  -   Converted as line-draw characters in a
  131.                      preferred font. This font must be fixed pitch
  132.                      and scaleable. Selecting either a non-
  133.                      scaleable or proportionally spaced font may
  134.                      cause text to format incorrectly.
  135.    N.B.              Ami Pro, Word for Windows and WordPerfect
  136.                      have different methods of displaying and
  137.                      printing line-draw at odd point sizes. ie
  138.                      11pt 9pt and 7pt line draw may print
  139.                      incorrectly.
  140. Sub/superscript      Text that is sub/superscripted may be
  141.                      converted as either text in a sub/
  142.                      superscripted font, or as a base-line change.

  150.                      WORDPERFECT READER
  151.                      ==================
  152.  
  153. Your WordPerfect documents should contain basic layout information
  154. describing :    
  155.            -  the page size and orientation.    
  156.            -  page margins.    
  157.            -  base font, pitch, and/or height.  
  158. All available WordPerfect fonts should be correctly entered into
  159. WP5FONT.INI, and mapped to the required Target Typeface.

  195.                      change. Advance codes will convert as font
  196.                      changes. Word for Windows has a corresponding
  197.                      control "Advance", and allows text to be
  198.                      represented in a sub/superscript font.
  199.                      Check "Baseline change", if available, to
  200.                      maintain the look of your WordPerfect
  201.                      documents. Check " Font change" to change  
  202.                      text to a sub/superscript font.

  205.             SETTING UP DOCUMENT CONVERSION MANAGER
  206.             ======================================

  208.                    DISPLAYWRITE/RFT READER
  209.                    =======================
  210.  
  211. Maintain Text     Check this box to enable text positioned by
  212. position          Backspace and ZICR codes to convert as correctly
  213.                   positioned text. This will cause text to be
  214.                   presented in a frame to maintain the overlap
  215.                   effect. Target applications that cannot support
  216.                   this function will be presented with sequential
  217.                   text. 
  218.                   Uncheck this box to strip Backspace and ZICR
  219.                   codes. 
  220.  
  221. Maintain          Check this box to convert formatted text as Body
  222. Formatted         Text. Documents must be paginated with generated
  223. Text              text resolved into the document. The controls
  224.                   that generate formatted text will be stripped.
  225.                   If documents are paginated, and text is not
  226.                   resolved into the document, then the control and
  227.                   the text will be stripped.
  228.                   Uncheck this box to convert these controls
  229.                   correctly. 
  230.  
  231. Line-draw         DisplayWrite line-draw graphics may be :
  232.                   -   Stripped and replaced by spaces.
  233.                   -   Converted as either underscore and bar 
  234.                       characters (ANSI). 
  235.                   -   Converted as line-draw characters in a
  236.                       preferred fixed pitch font.
  237.    N.B.           Ami Pro, Word for Windows and WordPerfect have
  238.                   different methods of displaying and printing
  239.                   line-draw at odd point sizes. ie 11pt 9pt and
  240.                   7pt line draw may print incorrectly.

  242. Sub/superscript   Half-Index up/down instructions can be
  243.                   converted as a base-line change or as a font
  244.                   change.

  255.                    =======================

  284.                    OFFICEPOWER READERS
  285.                    ====================
  286.  
  287. OfficePower v450 documents do not contain controls that describe
  288. the page size, page orientation, font and font-size. OfficePower
  289. v650 documents can have these controls present, but they are not
  290. mandatory
  291.  
  292. The Default settings provide DCM with information necessary to lay
  293. text onto an appropriate paper-size. In your Windows directory you
  294. will find 450FONT.INI, and 650FONT.INI. These files contain
  295. definitions for paper-sizes and fonts that should be edited to
  296. conform to your OfficePower system settings.
  297.  
  298. DCM uses the paper-size definitions as a preference list. This
  299. means that, with "paper-size = Auto Select" and "font = Auto
  300. Select",  DCM will attempt to fit text on to the first paper-size
  301. defined in the list using the first font definition in the font
  302. list. If text will not fit using the first font, DCM moves down
  303. the list in sequence looking for a fit. If all fonts fail to
  304. produce a fit DCM repeats this process with the next paper-size in
  305. the list. If no fit is found DCM defaults to the default Windows
  306. form size and system font, or A4 12 pitch if no printer has been
  307. defined.
  308.  
  309. If your OfficePower documents always conform to a standard layout,
  310. select the correct paper-size and font defintion. 
  311.  
  312.  
  313.  
  314.             SETTING UP DOCUMENT CONVERSION MANAGER
  315.             ======================================
  316.  
  317.                           WRITERS
  318.                    =====================
  319.  
  320. The WRITER controls enable text to be re-positioned onto any size
  321. of paper in any orientation. Margins can be changed for any
  322. document. A3 documents can be scaled to A4 paper. 
  323.  
  324. Version          Choose the version of WordPerfect or Word for
  325.                  Windows that you are using.
  326.                  Choose to create style or ruler based documents 
  327.  
  328. Tab types        Select to set your WordPerfect tabs as absolute
  329.                  or relative. 
  330.  
  331. Select printer   Choose either a WordPerfect or Windows printer
  332.                  driver for your WordPerfect documents. If the
  333.                  list is blank or contains only the "default
  334.                  printer", return to the "setup pairing" screen,
  335.                  select WordPerfect as the WRITER and press
  336.                  "Exit" to return to the main screen. Check the
  337.                  "Launch Document" box and enter the path to the
  338.                  PRS/WRS files when prompted. Go through the
  339.                  setup routine again and your printer list will
  340.                  display correctly.
  341.                  Other applications except Uniplex and  
  342.                  DisplayWrite, will have a choice of installed
  343.                  Windows printers
  344.  
  345. Change paper     Default is "No change". READER input page sizes
  346.                  will be converted exactly into WRITER page sizes,
  347.                  even if the input form size is not available on
  348.                  your printer. Selecting a paper size will force
  349.                  all READER input pages to convert to that paper
  350.                  size.
  351.                  Paper orientation will not be affected. 
  352.  
  353. Horizontal scale Select this option if text infringes the right-
  354.                  most print position, and you want to maintain the
  355.                  horizontal layout of your document. Text will be
  356.                  auto-scaled in percentage increments until it
  357.                  will fit on the paper.
  358.  
  359. Scale to paper   Select this option to auto-scale documents in
  360.                  both axes to maintain text on the selected paper
  361.                  size. 
  362.  
  363. Minimum margins  Edit these values to equal the minimum margins,
  364.                  (crop areas), available on your printer. If text
  365.                  infringes these areas, text will be re-positioned
  366.                  to conform to these values. The initial values
  367.                  are supplied by Windows or from the WordPerfect
  368.                  PRS/WRS files.
  369.                  The DisplayWrite and Uniplex printers may not be
  370.                  attached to the Windows system where conversion
  371.                  is being effected. Values for target printers
  372.                  must be entered manually. 
  373.                  The default values are 0.2"
  374.  
  375. Set margins      Check this box to re-define your document margins
  376.                  as the minimum values. Text will re-format
  377.                  accordingly. Scaling is not available if this box
  378.                  is checked. 
  379.  
  380.  
  381.  
  382.          USING THE ???FONT.INI FILES
  383.         ===========================
  384.  
  385. All READERS have an associated ???FONT.INI file. These files are
  386. ASCII format and provide the conversion programs with information
  387. about READER Fonts, font sizes, font attributes and line-spacing
  388. values, and allows READER text enhancement codes to be defined or
  389. re-defined for conversion purposes.
  390.  
  391. These files are  UPXFONT.INI    Uniplex       source document
  392.                  DOCFONT.INI    DisplayWrite     "        "
  393.                  WP5FONT.INI    WordPerfect      "        "
  394.                  WFWFONT.INI    Word for Windows "        "

  399. Correct use of these files enables complex documents to be sent to
  400. editors with limited font resources or printing capabilities so
  401. that they can be edited and returned to the originating
  402. application intact. Eg A TimesRoman face at various point sizes
  403. can be mapped to a variety of fixed pitch fonts/faces. The reverse
  404. conversion simply maps these fonts/faces back, by defining each
  405. font/face at a specific size, and through the FONT MAP SCREEN each
  406. font/face can be mapped to a typographic face.
  407.  
  408.  
  409. The following text describes the use of UPXFONT.INI. ie where
  410. Uniplex is the READER and documents are to be converted to any of
  411. the WRITERS
  412.  
  413.  
  414.  
  415.               USING UPXFONT.INI
  416.               =================
  417.  
  418.  
  419. UPXFONT.INI enables you to decide how your Uniplex fonts convert
  420. into WRITER fonts. If you have decided on different layouts for
  421. letters, memos, manuals  etc, then you will be able to automate a
  422. substantial amount of edit work by affecting the font size,
  423. spacing and attributes for typographical faces that you wish to 
  424. appear within your converted documents.
  425.  
  426. UPXFONT.INI  may be edited in a text editor, such as Windows
  427. notepad. Do not use a word-processor.  All measurements are in
  428. points (1/72"). Any value will  be accepted.
  429.  
  430. UPXFONT.INI provides default font information, where there is no
  431. font size or attribute description within the Uniplex document. 
  432.  
  433. UPXFONT.INI enables font size settings within your documents to be
  434. over-ridden.  
  435.  
  436. UPXFONT.INI enables printer control strings that cause a printer
  437. font change to be defined. 
  438. The font descriptions are displayed within Document Conversion
  439. Manager at the Font Map screen. Each line is a complete font
  440. description comprising:
  441.  
  442. Font descriptions  : The name of the font.
  443.  
  444. Font Number        : is used by Document Conversion Manager to
  445.                      differentiate font types ie fixed pitch,
  446.                      serif and sans-serif. 
  447.  
  448.               There are three number ranges :    
  449.               01 -   400 fixed pitch courier
  450.              401 - 32767 proportional serif / Times Roman
  451.            32768 - 65535 proportional sans serif / Helvetic
  452.  
  453. Font Size : '0' means use the font size detailed in the document,
  454.              or if no size is specified, use the default size
  455.              setting from the READER Controls setup. Any other
  456.              value in points means convert this font at this point
  457.              size regardless of the size specified in the
  458.              document.
  459.  
  460. Spacing   : '0' means use the active document spacing value for
  461.              this font. Any other value in points means, convert
  462.              this font at this spacing value regardless of the
  463.              document setting.
  464.  
  465. Attributes : sets the conversion attribute(s) for this font.
  466.  
  467. Text enhancement       This section allows the alphabetic
  468.                        attribute letters definition to be defined.
  469.  
  470. Effects                This section details font defintions that
  471.                        contain either bold or italic enhancement. 
  472.  
  473.  
  474.  
  475. In UPXFONT.INI you will see : 
  476. field no.   1        2        3    4    5
  477.            11,   FX-Normal    0,   0,   0 
  478.       
  479.       Changing the '0' in field 3  (font size) to 10, 
  480.       instructs Document Conversion Manager to replace the  
  481.       definition within the Uniplex document with this new 
  482.       value. In this case, FX-Normal, would convert as a 10pt  
  483.       12 pitch font with line-spacing per the active 
  484.       definition, and with a plain non-enhanced face. 
  485.       The face will depend on mapping. 
  486.  
  487.  
  488.  
  489.       Changing field 4 to 24 tells Document Conversion Manager  
  490.       to force line-spacing to three lines per inch for all 
  491.       occurances of FX-Normal.
  492.       Changing field 5 to 'AI' tells Document Conversion Manager
  493.       to convert all occurances of FX-Normal with Bold and 
  494.       Italic enhancements. Any legal Uniplex attribute, as 
  495.       defined in the Attribute section of UPXFONT.INI may be
  496.       added. 
  497.       
  498.       Adding printer control strings. 
  499.       -  Select a font number that reflects the face that 
  500.          your printer control string is intended to produce. 
  501.       -  In the font description field, type the printer 
  502.          control string exactly as it should appear in the 
  503.          document. 
  504.       -  Add the required point size, line-spacing values and 
  505.          any attributes. 
  506.  
  507.  e.g.   86,  .sn xxxxxxxx,  14,    0,   A 
  508.  "xxxxxxxx" = the font change escape sequence.
  509.        "14" = the required font height.        
  510.        " 0" = maintain document spacing values.
  511.  "A" = add bold enhancement. 
  512.  
  513. Default  mapping
  514. UPXFONT. INI defaults to the following values. 
  515.  
  516.          Uniplex Writer    Pitch   
  517.            FX-Normal       10pt    
  518.            FX-Large        16pt    
  519.            FX-Small        8pt     
  520.            PS-Normal       10pt    
  521.            PS-Large        16pt    
  522.            PS-Small         8pt   
  523.            Scalable fonts  As defined      
  524.            Linespacing     As defined      
  525.            Attributes      As defined   
  526.  
  527. Things to remember    If you edit font sizes be sure that your
  528.                       system has that font and size available, and
  529.                       that your printer can print at that size.
  530.

  532.

  534.             ======================================
  535.  
  536.                          FONT MAP 
  537.                          ========
  538.  
  539. This feature enables READER and WRITER typestyles and fonts to be
  540. interchangeable by face name and size. Please read the section on
  541. using ???PRN.INI before attempting to round-trip documents.
  542.  
  543.  
  544. Printer                  This is the printer currently selected
  545.                          through the WRITER Controls setup.
  546.                          Mapping is system and printer
  547.                          dependent. Make sure that you have
  548.                          selected the correct WRITER and printer
  549.                          before mapping your fonts.
  550.  
  551. Target typeface          This is the typeface to which you will
  552.                          map READER fonts. READER fonts already
  553.                          mapped to this face will be displayed in
  554.                          the Mapped Typestyles box.
  555.                          A default typestyle mapping is done by
  556.                          the Install program, based on the Windows
  557.                          default printer.
  558.  
  559. Unmapped typestyles      This box displays READER fonts, listed
  560.                          in ???FONT.INI, that have not been mapped
  561.                          to a Target Typeface. 
  562.                          If your READER documents contain fonts,
  563.                          listed in ???FONT.INI, that have not been
  564.                          mapped, then those typestyles will
  565.                          convert according to their font number at
  566.                          the appropriate point size.
  567.  
  568. To map READER typestyles : 
  569.  -  First make sure that ???FONT.INI contains correct font
  570.     descriptions.  (See "Using UPXFONT.INI"). 
  571.  -  Make sure that you have selected the correct WRITER and
  572.     printer. 
  573.  -  Select your Target Typeface. 
  574.  -  Highlight the Uniplex fonts that you want to map. 
  575.  -  Press the ADD button. 
  576. Your READER fonts will be placed in the "Mapped typestyles" box. 
  577.  
  578. Mapped typestyles       This box displays those READER fonts that
  579.                         are mapped to the currently selected
  580.                         Target Typeface. 
  581.  
  582. To unmap READER fonts : 
  583. -  First make sure that you have selected the correct WRITER and
  584.    printer. 
  585. -  Select your Target Typeface. 
  586. -  Highlight the READER fonts that you want to unmap. 
  587. -  Press the REMOVE button. Your READER fonts will 
  588.    be added to the "Unmapped typestyles" list.   
  589.  
  590.     If your READER application supports scaleable fonts
  591.     (TruType or Adobe etc), and your WRITER application 
  592.     does not (DisplayWrite / Officepower v450), then the
  593.     "Target Typeface" box will be described as "Reader Font",
  594.     and will contain all fonts available to the READER.
  595.     The Unmapped typestyle box will contain all WRITER 
  596.     typestyles/fonts which are to be mapped to the READER font.
  597.     Multiple WRITER typestyles can be tied to a READER font
  598.     family.
  599.     A READER font - TimesRoman - will be mapped to one of the
  600.     mapped typestyles that most closely matches the READER font
  601.     size. If your WRITER is DisplayWrite you may decide to map
  602.     typestyles 10, 85 and 223 to font Courier. A READER font size
  603.     12 pt will map to typestyle 10, 10pt will map to typestyle 85
  604.     and 8pt will map to typestyle 223
  605.  
  606. Unmapped Word for Windows/OfficePower/WordPerfect fonts will

  650. Fonts don't map          Any font not listed in ???FONT.INI will 
  651. correctly.               default to either Courier or TimesRoman
  652.                          at 10pt. Each time DCM is run and
  653.                          unlisted fonts are found in the source
  654.                          documents, a log file DCMLOG.TXT is
  655.                          created in your DCM directory. These font
  656.                          names must be entered in the READER
  657.                          ???FONT.INI file EXACTLY as they are in
  658.                          the log file, and then mapped via the
  659.                          FONT MAP setup screen. This problem is
  660.                          most likely to occur with the WordPerfect
  661.                          READER, as WordPerfect provides explicit font
  662.                          names.

  664. Word for Windows gives   Increase the "Minimum Margins" settings
  665. a "Document Margins set  by a few 1/100". This message is peculiar

  722.                    for this control are expressed in 1/1440", so
  723.                    BTAdjust=14 will add approx. 1/100" to the last 
  724.                    typing line values in a DisplayWrite document.
